Boards & Brews Event Recap
Boards and Brews: Learning About Nonprofit Board and Committee Service
Earlier this week, we, along with our 3 nonprofit friends and partners, hosted Boards and Brews with the sole purpose of connecting purpose-driven individuals to nonprofits seeking passionate, skilled, and diverse board and committee members.
As they sipped local craft beer, young and emerging professionals had the opportunity to meet nonprofit leaders, learn about what board service looks like, and how to make a difference in their communities.
This event was a true testament to the power of collaboration because when organizations come together with a shared mission, great things can happen. By partnering with our nonprofit friends, we created a space that encouraged authentic connection, mutual learning, and a sense of shared purpose. Coming together is proof that when we collaborate, share ideas, and work together, our community is at its strongest.

Reading Results
Reading Results partners with schools to support students from systemically excluded communities in becoming successful readers. We believe that literacy is a basic human right, and we work to increase access and break down barriers through supporting students with an effective, individualized, culturally-responsive reading intervention program.
Reading by third grade is crucial to a child’s educational development. Falling behind creates challenges that negatively impact a child’s education and self-esteem for years to come. Reading Results is committed to helping struggling learners get on the path toward academic success and a brighter future.

Play it Forward
Play It Forward (PIF) works to ensure equal access to the genius within each child by establishing reliable music education and mentorship for all children, regardless of income, ability, proximity, or any other barrier that stands between a potential student and his/her/their potential for greatness. We do this by providing reliable access to no-cost lessons and instruments, removing barriers of income, historical inequities, proximity, or any other obstacle that stands between a child and access to the musical education that all children deserve.

Trash for Peace
Trash for Peace was established in Portland, Oregon, in 2012 with a vision of a world without waste. We believe it is possible to live in communities that are resilient and sustainable not just because they are good at reducing, reusing, and recycling, but because everyone in the community has a voice at the table.
Environmental Justice is the cornerstone of the work we do — we strive to build innovative waste reduction and recycling systems that are created by and for communities, and in so doing, are guaranteed to work better and last longer. We are collaborative and determined. We focus on providing hands-on learning, low-barrier job opportunities, and education about sustainability in environments that are peer-led, welcoming, safe, and collaborative. We divert thousands of pounds of trash from the landfill by utilizing reused and donated materials in all of our after-school activities.
