Volunteering at Schoolhouse Supplies

Volunteers are the glue that keeps us together! Sign up to one of the thousands of volunteers who have helped us continue getting school supplies into the hands of students and teachers. Read below to learn more about our ongoing volunteer opportunities!

Support the Free Store for Teachers

The help from our volunteers creates a huge impact in our community. Every pencil, notebook, and crayon that volunteers touch will wind up in the hands of a student who otherwise would not have the tools needed to learn.

We always need help to process donated supplies, stock the shelves of the Free Store for Teachers, or complete special projects. Volunteer shifts are available Tuesday through Thursday from 9am to Noon, or 1:30 to 4:30pm!

Calling all book lovers!

Share your expert knowledge of the books that students love to read by helping us organize and stock the book section shelves in the Free Store for Teachers! This project requires attention to detail while organizing books by grade level, genre, and title. Library experience and/or foreign language knowledge are a huge plus! We'd love to have you join us on Tuesdays from 9am to Noon.

Interested in group volunteering?

If your corporate team, school club, or group of friends want to volunteer together, Schoolhouse Supplies is the place to do so! Work together to support local kids and their classrooms, and have fun doing it! Team volunteering opportunities are available Tuesdays through Thursdays.

  • The ideal volunteer group size is four to twenty people.

  • Most groups volunteer for between two to three hours.

  • Help with special projects in the Free Store for Teachers and warehouse. Teams may be sorting and taking inventory of donations, stocking supplies, working in the warehouse – the possibilities change daily!

Board Service and Skills-Based Volunteerism At-A-Glance

Schoolhouse Supplies relies on the deep commitment of our volunteer Board of Directors, Committee members and skills-based volunteers.

Board of Directors - Responsible for overall governance, Board members ensure SHS’s strategic direction and fiscal integrity.

Educator Advisory Council - EAC members ensure SHS’s programs and policies are rooted in the real needs of educators and students.

Finance Committee - Committee members assist the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities by monitoring resource allocation.

Programs Marketing Committee - This year’s focus is our newest program called Pack for a Purpose. Committee members bring their knowledge of corporate marketing and employee engagement.

Trivia Night Planning Committee - Our 2nd annual Trivia Night Fundraiser is April 30, 2026 and volunteers bring expertise in parties and details.

Skills-Based Volunteers - Skills-based volunteers typically work on their own schedules on a project related to their professional expertise or personal interests. Projects range from technology and process improvement to marketing and outreach and might be independent projects or part of an event or program committee.
