Free Store for Teachers Update

The Free Store for Teachers program just wrapped up the first cycle of teacher pick-up days this September, just in time for the first days of school for Schoolhouse Supplies’ Free Store partner districts.

While the Free Store traditionally opens in September for the school year, and welcomes teachers to shop, Schoolhouse Supplies has implemented a new process that reflects public guidance for COVID safety while ensuring that teachers and students continue to have access to free school supplies.

Instead of shopping in the store, teachers ordered themed classroom kits that were packed by Schoolhouse Supplies staff and volunteers. Among the recent options, teachers could select kits that included basic school supplies, arts and crafts supplies, office supplies, hygiene products, books, and other products. Then on their assigned day, teachers picked-up their supplies.

Over 650 teachers ordered supplies. Most of these supplies have since been distributed to students who are using them to complete their schoolwork and class projects at home. And some supplies are on the teacher’s desk and being used to support daily instruction.

Thank you to all of the teachers and administrators who have shared their and their students’ experiences getting used to these new remote classrooms. We love hearing your enthusiasm and passion for education and your deep commitment and care for your students. We’re fortunate you are a part of this community. Thank you for being a teacher.

There are more opportunities to receive supplies this fall. If you have already registered since August 2020, you will automatically receive communication about upcoming opportunities. If you have not registered, you can register here. 

Teachers working in the Centennial, David Douglas, Parkrose, Portland Public, and Reynolds School Districts at a school where 50% or more of the students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch are eligible for the Free Store for Teachers program.
