Would you like to help shape the future of Schoolhouse Supplies while advocating for fellow educators and students?

Schoolhouse Supplies is seeking to create an Educator Advisory Council for the 2025-2026 school year, comprised of school and district faculty and staff who represent different roles, grade levels, subjects and districts in Multnomah County. This volunteer leadership group will work with staff and Board to ensure that our programs and services are rooted in real needs of educators and students.

Volunteer Position Description

The Educator Advisory Council is a volunteer leadership body that plays a critical role in shaping the current and future programs and services Schoolhouse Supplies provides to teachers and students across Multnomah County and beyond.  This is an exciting opportunity for educators who want to help shape the future of Schoolhouse Supplies while advocating for their fellow teachers and students.

The Educator Advisory Council helps ensure that Schoolhouse Supplies’ programs, policies, and initiatives are rooted in the real needs of educators and students. In addition to providing valuable insight into the evolving educational landscape, council members also spread awareness of the free resources available through Schoolhouse Supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

Attend:

  • Two on-site or virtual meetings per year (tentatively in September and April), held after-school or during non-school days to provide feedback on programs, share updates from schools, and discuss opportunities for Schoolhouse Supplies to better serve teachers and students.

  • The annual Schoolhouse Supplies planning retreat (date tbd), typically a 6-8 hour session.

Participate:

  • Provide periodic feedback to provide timely insights on specific topics and initiatives.

  • Advise Schoolhouse Supplies’ staff and Board of Directors on:

    • Emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in schools.

    • Program design and shopping experiences.

    • Eligibility criteria and processes for schools accessing Schoolhouse Supplies’ services.

    • Effective engagement with teachers, schools, and key educational stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Schoolhouse Supplies to advise programmatic decisions to ensure the organization’s services are responsive to evolving educational needs.

  • Help raise awareness of Schoolhouse Supplies’ offerings among fellow educators.

  • Offer guidance to help foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that reflects the diverse voices and experiences of local educators and students.

Qualifications:

  • Current faculty or staff in a Multnomah County public school or district office where the majority of students are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

  • Experience shopping with or participating in Schoolhouse Supplies programs (preferred).

  • Passion for educator advocacy, community engagement, and resource equity.

  • Willingness to share honest insights and creative ideas to enhance programs.
